Providence Prescription Drug Take Back Day

April 22, 2023 @ 10:00 am - 2:00 pm

The City of Providence and Community Partners will hold a Prescription Drug-Take Back Day on Saturday, April 22 at 10 AM, Roger Williams Park Broad Street Entrance

We need your help and your participation at these events. Abuse of prescription drugs is a dangerous and increasing problem, in part because these drugs are common in every home. Most people don’t think of prescription drugs as being abused by children, but statistics show that children who abuse prescription drugs mostly find them in their own homes.

Drug overdoses are now a leading cause of accidental death in Rhode Island, with more people dying annually from overdoses than die from murder, arson and car accidents combined. The Mayor’s Coalition on Behavioral Health is working with the Drug Enforcement Administration, the Providence Police and Walgreens Pharmacy to combat the problem. On Saturday, April 22 from 10AM to 2PM, anyone can turn in old or unused prescription/non-prescription drugs, with no questions asked. Drop-off locations include: three Walgreens locations in Providence – 533 Elmwood Ave., 295 Academy Ave.; 1 Pocasset Ave and 325 Providence Police Department . These drugs will be collected and destroyed properly.

You are invited and encouraged to participate in this Prescription Drug Take-Back Day and a community health and resource fair with 20 local agencies, who will be at Roger Williams Park on April 22nd from 10 am to 2 p.m.

We look forward to seeing you on April 22, and hope you can share the information about this important public health event with your neighbors. For more information please contact Obed Papp at opapp@providenceri.com or 401-680-5505.
