Broadening Your Scope of Care – A Focus on Prevention Series, Part 1: Primary Prevention – Moving Upstream Using Effective Strategies (NAADAC)

This webinar will explore how primary prevention can move communities upstream toward health and wellness. Attendees will gain a clear understanding of primary prevention and the strategies shown through research to be effective, as well as those shown through research to not be effective and, in some cases, harmful.
Presenter
Kris Gabrielsen, MPH, CPS, is the co-director of the Great Lakes Prevention Technology Transfer Center. She has worked in the substance misuse prevention field for over 30 years. Gabrielsen was the Associate Director of the Western Center for the Application of Prevention Technologies (CAPT), co-authored the first substance abuse prevention specialist training curriculum, and co-authored the textbook, Substance Abuse Prevention: The Intersection of Science and Practice. As a consultant, she has worked with states and communities across the nation to bridge the gap between research and practice, assisting prevention professionals in maximizing their effectiveness.
Learning Objectives
- Participants will be able to define prevention, including what it is and what it is not.
- Participants will be able to name the steps in the Strategic Prevention Framework planning process.
- Participants will be able to list at least five strategies that are effective and five that are NOT effective in preventing substance misuse.
